I’ve been telling stories ever since I was a child, but it was not until adulthood that I realized I wanted to pursue a career in writing. After I earned degrees in English and film studies, I went on to get an MA in literature and an MFA in fiction writing. I’ve been a professor of creative writing, British literature, and composition for several years.
My first novel, Just Beyond the Shining River, was my MFA thesis and is the product of extensive research and time spent in England. Three study abroad trips gave me the opportunity to live as a Londoner and to get an ear for British dialect and nuances. This book was a Goldie finalist for best debut novel in 2018.
As a longstanding member of the International Virginia Woolf Society, I’ve presented papers at conferences in the US and the UK. My stories and essays have appeared in a number of publications.
I am also the author of the novels Caught Inside , Saving Sam, and Uncharted Waters (to be released in March of 2025).
I spent a month as a writer in residence on the island of Molokai in June of 2019 where I started to write my fifth novel–a historical romance set in Hawaii in the mid-1940s.
In my free time, I enjoy mountain biking, hiking, and ocean swimming. I do much of my revising and editing while sitting in a shady park or on the beach.
